LONDON, October 19, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — GSMA MWC Africa will bring together a variety of industry sectors, business leaders and decision makers with the region’s mobile ecosystem over a packed three-day schedule for the first in-person edition of MWC Africa, 25 – October 27, 2022. Together with founding partners Mastercard, MTN, Orange and ZTE, as well as supporting partners the Shared Value Initiative for Africa (SVAI) and Smart Africa, MWC Africa will come together to discuss how technology and shared value have the power to drive economic growth for people and businesses across Africa.

Excitement mounts as the GSMA shares the MWC Africa agenda which will explore the hottest technology themes including leadership for connectivity, A person – One Purpose, Accelerate Africa and Fintech. MWC Africa 2022 will feature over 120 expert speakers and over 60 hours of curated content.

The GSMA is delighted to announce that the Under Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer of the United Nations Global Compact, Ms. Sanda Ojiambo will join Keynote 1, alongside the CEO of Smart Africa, Lacina Koneand the general secretary of the ATU, John Omo.

The 2022 GSMA African Political Leaders Forum will bring together key stakeholders from government departments, regulators and the wider mobile ecosystem. Discussions will focus on how government policy in the region aligns with technological developments as well as the policy developments needed to move Africa towards the digital economy.

Partner programs and summits

The 5G Summit will take a deep dive into commercial 5G services, with a particular focus on Africa, where the journey to 5G has begun, with stakeholders taking action to accelerate the transition to 5G. FinTech, which is at the forefront of Africa’s digital transformation, is pioneering the availability of financial services and supporting financial inclusion. The FinTech Summit will explore the latest innovations and emerging technologies that are set to shape African financial services over the next decade.

SVAI and Shift Impact Africa have partnered with the GSMA to bring together the sixth annual Africa Shared Value Leadership Summit (ASVL Summit) and MWC Africa. The ASVL Summitthe unifying theme “One Africa, A voice‘ highlights the need for organizations to work together across borders and industries for the benefit of all Africans. It shows how the economic benefits of creating shared value as a collective can be achieved through close collaboration between stakeholders and businesses for social progress and business success. During the ASVL summit, the Under-Secretary-General and Managing Director of the United Nations Global Compact, Ms. Sanda Ojiambo will participate in the session “Creating Shared Value – Technology as an Enabler for Africa’s Growth”.

Smart Africa partnered with the GSMA to co-host meetings of key bodies during MWC Africa. Smart Africa’s co-located meetings at MWC Africa include the Council of ICT Ministers (CMICT), the Steering Committee and the first edition of the Private Sector Forum. The meetings are an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss regulatory and policy frameworks and advance the continent’s digital transformation. Smart Africa actively encourages and supports private initiatives and investments in the technology and communications sectors through the Smart Africa Alliance platform.
