Nvidia accelerates Australian AI roadmap with CSIRO partnership
Nvidia has partnered with Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) to help expand the country’s domestic AI capabilities and accelerate adoption of the technology.
CSIRO is home to Australia’s new National Center for Artificial Intelligence and is ready to work with partners across Australia to promote responsible and inclusive AI.
The center was established with $124.1 million in funding as part of the government’s $1.2 billion digital economy strategy aimed at transforming the country into a modern, world-leading digital economy. 2030.
The two organizations are partnering on a number of accelerated IT initiatives, they revealed earlier this week. This includes the application of quantum computing and digital twins for use cases in climate action and genomic medicine, which will leverage Nvidia’s graphical, scientific and high-performance computing capabilities.
The collaboration will also focus on national AI upskilling initiatives for students, researchers and industry professionals to improve national workforce readiness. A working group of domain experts from both organizations was formed to identify opportunities for co-innovation.
“CSIRO has used NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platform for more than a decade, and I envision this new collaboration will expand our efforts around AI research, startups and industrial enterprises, grow an ecosystem more robust AI local and will support the launch of our new National AI Center,” said CSIRO CIO Brendan Dalton.
The organizations added that researchers working on the industrial application of new AI solutions will have a safe place to test and iterate their models. They can access clusters of optimally configured Nvidia GPUs at scale and a library of SDKs and containers to accelerate data science workflows. They will also be able to test new technologies and get the technical support they need.
“We will have people to help scientists and engineers make sure their codes work the best way possible and make sure they have the right training to develop the kind of algorithms they want,” Dalton said. “I think doing these things well for innovators nationally is the best way to grow the AI economy in Australia.”
Nvidia’s technology will be used to help CSIRO scientists on an existing AI tool that helps first responders better predict what the bushfires around them will do next, informing them of tactics for dealing with them. appropriate fires. Using Nvidia GPU technologies will help speed up the formation of these patterns, the organizations said. They added that the goal of using AI to predict weather and different types of natural disasters is to save lives and property.
